No:8 Apartment

No:8 Apartment was designed as a residential building that greets the sea in Maltepe. Clad in a deep tone of navy, the façade opens and closes layer by layer through folding perforated shutters; this moving surface filters the sunlight while framing an ever-widening view from the interior toward the sea and the city. Greenery spilling out between the shutters turns the building into a vertical garden breathing within the grey urban fabric.

The ground floor of the building, meanwhile, is the part of the apartment that comes alive at night and adapts to the city. Calm throughout the day, the façade fills with light come evening; the bar and performance space behind the glass becomes a threshold that invites the street inside. Built with a concrete ceiling, steel details and dim lighting, this space deliberately breaks from the calm of the residences above, giving the building a different character at every hour of the day.

The green terrace built on the roof carries this vertical garden idea to the very top of the building, taking No:8 beyond being just a residential block. The result is a layered building that protects its privacy while, from ground floor to roof, speaking with the city, the sea and its nightlife.
